Thread: The Mannings.

The Mannings.

Archie played but wasn't super spectacular.

Peyton.
Monkey on the back about winning the big game. At UT it was Florida and now it's just getting there. Will he become another Marino? Own the records but never a ring.

Eli.
Well already being said may of been a wasted pick, to much hype and not productive. I like the kid.
But he looks totally lost at times.
The Giants kept Coughlan for another year.
But will they get a QB coach to help out with Eli like brother Peyton has had.

Time will tell. But many are thinking Peyton has to win today and next week.
And Eli can't have another year like this past year. Or he will be a backup for the rest of his career in the pro's.

Can both beat the odd's.
Can Peyton get it done?
Can little brother, become the QB, big brother already is, yet maybe take it a step further?

Both of the Manning sons deserved the publicity they got coming out of college, and Peyton has lived up to it thus far.

The one point that I dont hear made much is this. People talk of the "Manning gene pool" and the tradition and being groomed to play QB. People forget though, part of that tradition and genes from papa Manning is losing. I would agree, his team was not very good. But look at the fact Daddy never had a winning season I think. Then look at the total confusion and 'deer in the headlights' look from Eli. And most of all, I see the boby language and defeatist look on Peyton when things arent going great. Maybe I'm reading too much into that, but thats something I see. Some may say that doesnt matter or is non existent. I think psychology is a very key part of sports, and especially NFL qb. and it seems to me at this point that the sons dont really have a positive psychological frame of mind on a consistent basis.

I think your right on track. Some good points.
Dad did have a rough time in his days. And both Peyton and Eli do show some similiar traits.

I think Peyton has a defining moment today. a comeback in the 4th or just a "drive" to answer the Pats when we think that the Pats has just turned the game around had have all the momentium on their side.

Archie Manning was a great QB who would be mentioned today in the same sentence with Roger Staubach and Terry Bradshaw, other QBs of that era who were considered the best at their positions. The fact of the matter is that Terry and Roger had the best personnel around them in the league at that time. The Saints weren't nicknamed the "Aints" for nothing. I saw Archie play many times, and the fault was not his by any stretch of the imagination.
Eli and Peyton are chips off the old block, in that they are a class-act off the field, on the field. You can't put the blame of this past Giants season on Eli any more than you can put the blame on Romo or Bledsoe for Dallas' season. The D simply was not there for either team when it counted most, and we all know that D is what wins championships.

Re: The Mannings.

If D is what wins championships, the Colts might as well save money and not even buy a plane ticket to Miami, cause the Bears D is plum scary!!!!

Re: The Mannings.

Scarier than Baltimore's? The Bears D gave up more yards per game, rushing yards per game, passing yards per game, and points per game. The Colts beat Baltimore.

Does that mean they'll win the Super Bowl? Obviously not. But I don't think they'll be "scared" of the Bears defense.

(noted: I'm not a fan of neither team.)

Re: The Mannings.

I am Glad that i will be happy no matter who wins the superbowl this year (will probably pull for the colts and hope Thomas has a big game is a Benson fumbal being the differance in the game )

The big Advantage the Bears have going into this game it the kick returning. If Rex can keep from screwing up and the Bears D can kepp the Colts O in check it very well could come down to field position and the Bears return game advantage
